Supplement (1886) van de Catalogus (1879), Gambier (Vve Hasslauer et de Champeaux)

The catalogue of 1879 comprises 143 pages. In 1886, a supplement was issued in which the page numbering continues from 144 to 155. The model numbers run from 1416 to 1484. This supplement is notable for its style of illustration, which is rendered with considerably less detail than in the preceding 1879 catalogue. Among the approximately 70 new models are several fantaisies, including nos. 1422 and 1423, Gervaise and Mes de Bottes de l’Assommoir. Within the group of manchet bowls, this catalogue marks the first appearance of the bulldog, notably shown in two sizes. The no. 1420p is slightly smaller than no. 1420; this smaller variant has not been observed by the author and does not reappear in later catalogues. Another noteworthy bowl is no. 1416, Tête Fantaisie Sheer Ali. This small bowl closely resembles a Jacob type and does not recur in subsequent catalogues. Nos. 1471 and 1471 bis, Mousseline, are particularly refined and delicate stemmed pipes, characterised by a forward-projecting heel and a bowl inclined backwards. The catalogue of 1879 and the supplement of 1886 were later combined and reissued as a single new catalogue.
