(179, 1-3) The Pipe of Reverend Nawijn, Minister on Terschelling

Summary

In 1894, Reverend Nawijn received a special personalised tobacco pipe bearing his title, name, and the new place to which he had been appointed. The pipe is entirely painted black and has goldcoloured lettering and spiral decoration along almost the entire length of the stem. On the heel, the mark crowned 65 is stamped. The pipe was made by the Gouda pipe maker Martinus Nicolaas van Duijn, who was active between 1885 and 1925 and produced many pipes in these colour schemes.
