Catalogue J.J. Knoedgen, Bree

'Drawings of earthen pipes of the J.J. Knoedgen factory in Bree, Belgian Limburg

This catalogue presents 187 models across 18 pages. The firm J.J. Knoedgen was founded in 1846 in Maastricht by the German-born Jean Jacques Knoedgen. In 1853, the factory was relocated to Bree following his marriage to a woman from that town. The factory’s range shows notable overlaps with that of firms such as Goedewaagen, while also including a number of distinctly “French” models. For many years, the Knoedgen company also produced so-called asbestos and bruyère pipes. In 1979, the firm was taken over by Koninklijke Elbert Gubbels of Roermond; by that time, clay pipe production had already ceased.

This catalogue can be dated between 1890-1900
