Catalogus Gambier (Vve Hasslauer & de Champeaux successeurs), 1879, Givet (Fr)

The catalogue of 1879 includes a nomenclature and provides a fairly complete overview of Gambier’s range at that time. The catalogue contains 876 illustrations. The pipes are organised even more clearly than in the earlier catalogues. The first 29 pages are devoted to manchet pipes, arranged in six different series. Within the fantaisie pipes, the first eight pages are used to present the most striking models, designated as fantaisie extra. The so-called mignonnettes are now shown on two separate pages, whereas previously they were included among the standard models. A number of pipes first introduced in the 1875 supplement are now grouped together under the heading fantaisies Ste Hélène. A new series is formed by the so-called Grande marque pipes (nos. 1370–1383). These consist of existing pipe models made of terre extra blanche, provided with a band or garter at the junction of the stem. The bowl bears the Gambier mark in italic script. Within this group, several new models also appear, such as no. 1370 Forme Belge, ornée de côtes et filets and no. 1371 Gland et Feuilles de chêne. An amusing detail is the Borraine Extra grande with model number 800. This model already appeared in the 1868 catalogue, but without a model number. At that time, number 800 referred to Le Christ. Following the disappearance of the Christ head, the model number 800 was reassigned to the Borraine.
