2e Supplement op de catalogus 1868 uit 1875, Gambier (Vve Hasslauer), Givet (Fa)

In the supplement of 1875, three remarkable stemmed pipes are included that symbolise the grief surrounding the Franco-German War of 1870/1871. These are no. 1317 Alsace, with the year 1871 on the reverse of the bowl; no. 1335 Strasbourg, depicting the face of a woman wearing a mourning veil; and no. 1337 Metz, showing the head of a sorrowful allegorical female figure representing the city. To these three stemmed pipes can be added a fourth example featuring a caricature of Napoleon III and the German emperor (no. 1306 Deux empereurs). These supplements are not provided with page numbering but were later assigned numbers in order to facilitate consultation.
