Catalogue ‘B’ – Dutch Clay pipes, P. Goedewaagen en Zoon

Catalogue (4 pages) of the firm P. Goedewaagen & Zoon, printed in folio format. The pipes are depicted at a very small scale, as indicated on the front cover: “Containing a few of the principal models for export.” In total, 83 illustrations are included across the four pages. Published c. 1903–1905.

*The name Goedewaagen is associated with a prominent family of pipe makers from Gouda, whose history can be traced back to 1779. Around 1904, the firm P. Goedewaagen & Zoon issued this catalogue, illustrating 83 different models. This period marks a significant expansion in the company’s export activities, partly due to the disappearance of a Gouda-based competitor and a competitive pricing strategy, likely supported by extensive mechanisation of parts of the pipe-making process [ref. 1, Duco, 1999, p. 51]. In 1919, the factory continued under the name N.V. Goedewaagen. In 1982, bankruptcy was declared, after which the factory relocated to Nieuw-Buinen, where it remains active today, primarily in the production of decorative and utilitarian ceramics.
